Physical Abuse

This type of abuse is the one that is synonymous with domestic abuse. Most images present a woman with bruising to represent domestic abuse – and it has become instantly recognizable. However, 2 women every week are still dying at their hands of their partner, and despite it being considered the easiest to spot, there are some types of physical abuse that leave little or no mark on the body.

If you are experiencing any of the following, you could be surviving physical abuse

  • Deliberate biting
  • Hitting or punching a wall
  • Throwing objects
  • Deliberate scratching
  • Slapping
  • Punching
  • Kicking
  • Locking you in a room, cupboard house or any other confinement
  • Not letting you leave the house
  • Not letting you leave the room
  • Sleep interference; such as waking you up in the nighttime – or when you are sleeping
  • Deliberately exhausting you with unreasonable demands and lack of rest
  • Deprivation of heat or food
  • Pushing you down steps or into objects
  • Hitting you with weapons or other objects
